Titas Halder

Writer / Director

Titas is a director and writer working across Theatre, Film and Music. He has worked extensively in new writing and is developing a slate of projects for screen. He is currently Associate Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse.

He was previously Associate Director at the Kiln Theatre, Creative Associate at the Bush Theatre, and a Staff Director at the National Theatre. He trained as Resident Assistant Director at the Donmar Warehouse, on the National Theatre Studio Directors Course, and with directors including Michael Grandage, Jamie Lloyd and Roger Michell. As a writer he trained on the Royal Court Young Writers' Programme.

His first two plays Run the Beast Down and Escape the Scaffold saw him nominated for Best Writer at the inaugural Stage Debut Awards. His next play The Basement was a finalist for the Verity Bargate Award. He is part of BBC Voices 2024 and is currently writing his first feature film for Storyteller.

Directing credits include: This Is Not A Coup (Yard Theatre, Paines Plough, RWCMD), The Lemon Table starring Ian McDiarmid - co-directed with Michael Grandage (MGC - Salisbury Playhouse & UK tour), Sinners Club (Soho, The Other Room & Theatr Clwyd), St. Nicholas (The Other Room & Theatr Clwyd), Play/Silence (The Other Room), A Boy and His Soul starring Colman Domingo (Kiln), The Dance of Death starring Indira Varma (Donmar Trafalgar), The Goat at Midnight (66 Books – Bush), Painting a Wall (Finborough).

Associate credits include: To Kill A Mockingbird (West End), Consent (National Theatre & West End), King Lear (Donmar Warehouse, UK tour, Brooklyn Academy of Music).

Writing includes: Replica (National Theatre Connections), Escape the Scaffold (Theatre 503 & The Other Room), Run the Beast Down (Finborough, Marlowe Theatre & Strawdog Theatre Chicago).

As a writer Titas is represented by Kara Fitzpatrick at 42. His plays are published by Oberon Books and Methuen Drama. He performs and records as musical artist Titas and the Fox.
