Jimmy Jewell

Composer/Songwriter

Jimmy began his musical career as a child chorister in St Paul’s Cathedral with professional performances alongside Diana Ross, Jose Carreras, Annie Lennox and even the Muppets. Following further performing experience with the National Youth Music Theatre Jimmy went to train at the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying composition.

Jimmy has worked across all aspects of the Music and live performance: as a musician Jimmy has worked internationally with artists from The Who, Alice Cooper, Peter Frampton, Tony Hadley, Paul Young, Procol Harum, The Harlem Boys Choir and The British Rock Symphony.

He has conducted musicals including: Evita (European Tour) The Prince & the Pauper (US Tour) Strike Up The Band! (US Tour) All You Need is Love! (Queens Theatre) Fiddler on the Roof and Jesus Christ Super Star (Various). Additionally Jimmy has worked as an Orchestrator and Record Producer.

Composing credits include: songs for the International sellout tour of You-tube’s Dan & Phil’s - The Amazing Tour is Not On Fire (UK Tour, US Tour, Australia Tour & YouTube Red Originals, his music to the song The Internet is Here was later released and earned a gold record disc for sales), The Tempest (Northcott Theatre), Peter Pan (Lyric Theatre, Bridewell Theatre, Margate Theatre Royal, Aberdeen Arts Centre, Theatre Royal Plymouth), A Beggars Opera (South Hill Park), Walk With The Angels (ICA & Soho Theatres), Frankenstein (Cochrane Theatre), Queen of the Underground (for NYMT), Who Ate All The Pies? (Theatre Royal Plymouth, Tristan Bates Theatre), Solitary Confinement (Kings Head Theatre), Please Look At Me Now (Edinburgh Festival), and additional songs for Not Quite Bedtime and Paddington Bear’s First Concert (Edinburgh Festival).

Choral works include: Requiem, Pie Jesu, Sweet Mary (Herald Records), Lead Kindly Light (American Air Force Commission), The Lord is My Shepherd, Magnificat and Wherever I Go. Jimmy’s songs have also featured in the Trinity College London Singing Exam Syllabus.

Current composing work: During 2020 Jimmy was invited by the British Youth Music Theatre to compose the music for Saving Christmas - an online, downloadable one person show to keep young people performing during lockdown. 2021 will see the revival of his musical, NHS The Musical commissioned and presented by Theatre Royal Plymouth which Jimmy has been bringing up to date.

Jimmy was Lead Artist for Birmingham's Gallery 37 arts participation programme for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, was Associate Director of the Theatre Royal Plymouth from 2006-2009, and for ten years was a regular guest artist on BBC Radio Five Live's Breakfast, Drive, Matthew Bannister and Anita Anand shows. 

Jimmy currently sits on the board of the British Youth Music Theatre. 

In 2015 Jimmy was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for his ‘outstanding contribution to the UK music industry’.
